After last weeks kidnap- ping in the Akwa Ibom region, fisherman began protesting government inaction amidst the mass ransoms they are forced to pay. A day afterwards however, 25 fishermen were kidnapped by gunmen and their engines seized in Ibaka. Nevertheless, Piracy is steadily declining in the Gulf of Guinea, with the Royal Navy patrol ship HMS Trent deployment to West Africa this week the next in a series of interventions to combat piracy.
