Historical events, such as control during World War II and the establishment of the Suez Canal, underscore its enduring importance. Efforts to maintain maritime security date back to initiatives like the Jeddah Pact in 1956 and more recent endeavors such as the Council of Arab and African Border States of the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. However, activation of these initiatives is crucial to effectively address current challenges and combat maritime criminal activities like piracy and human trafficking.
