Written by India Today | April 17, 2024 at 8:00 AM

The Indian Navy has demonstrated its swift and effective response to piracy by rescuing crew members from the hijacked Bulgarian ship MV Ruen and apprehending 35 pirates off the coast of Somalia.

This operation highlighted the importance of international cooperation in combating piracy. The Indian Navy's increased maritime security operations, particularly in the Gulf of Aden and adjacent areas, reflect its commitment to safeguarding the Indian Ocean Region. The Information Fusion Centre-Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR) has served as a vital hub for information exchange, while coordinated missions with other branches of the Indian military have enhanced operational synergy. With numerous lives saved, critical commodities escorted, and narcotics seized, the Indian Navy's ongoing efforts underscore its role as a key security provider in the region.
