The conflict in Cabo Delgado is deteriorating. In October 2020, at least 219 boats carrying 11,280 people half of which were children arrived in Pemba, the provincial capital of Cabo Delgado reports UNICEF in their latest humanitarian situation report on Mozambique.
Several attacks over the last few months on district capitals (Mocimboa da Praia, Quissanga, Muidumbe and Macomia districts) have forced many humanitarian actors to temporarily relocate from vital hub locations to the southern districts of Cabo Delgado, reducing their ability to assess and respond to the rising needs of the IDP. Food insecurity, rising cases of Covid-19 and the approach of the rainy season are also raising concerns amongst NGOs working in the region.
