OPERATIONS of the Onne Sea Port may be disrupted, following threats by the Association of Fishermen and Sea Food Dealers in Rivers State to shut activities in the Bonny waterways.

The association together with the Concerned Youths of Bonny said they would embark on a protest soon to effect the action.

Convener of the group, Ralph Pepple, who disclosed this while speaking to newsmen in Port Harcourt, alleged that operators of the Onne Sea Port were not supporting the fight against insecurity on Bonny waterways which they used daily.

According to Pepple, the Onne sea port generates billions of naira as revenue through their operations on the Bonny waterways and urged the sea port operators to assist Bonny kingdom with logistics to tackle crime on the route.

“We will carry out a peaceful demonstration, closing out the Bonny waterways that the Onne sea port is using until a positive response is giving to the Bonny kingdom in terms of insecurity,” Pepple stated.

When contacted, the Public Relations Manager, Onne Sea Port, Mrs. Barbra Achukwu, said she was on leave and could not speak on the association’s claims.
