The ISS program provided a series of educational events designed to address issues facing the marketplace, owners, captains, crew and yachting professionals.
ISS professional member and Dryad Global's CEO Corey Ranslem moderated the first panel, 'Fire Safety'. He was joined by Laura Sherrod - Newcoast Insurance, Mike Pavluk - Frankentek, Pete Southgate - Cayman Registry, Richie Blake - Dohle Yachts and Robert Ellis - Sea-Fire Marine to discuss new guideline developments. Is there an increase in fires or is this just better reported? Are Lithium (Li-on) batteries a major concern and what are the solutions?

Fire safety aboard superyachts is important for a number of reasons. First, superyachts are often large and complex vessels with a lot of flammable materials on board, such as fuel, oil, and paint. This makes them more susceptible to fires than smaller boats. Second, superyachts often travel long distances and may be far from shore in the event of a fire. This means that crew and passengers may have to rely on their own resources to fight the fire or evacuate the vessel. Third, superyacht fires can be very destructive, both to the vessel itself and to the environment. In some cases, fires have resulted in fatalities.
