👉 In the Ukrainian Port city of Mariupol, Russian-backed separatists have seized two foreign flagged ships, Panama flagged Blue Star I, and Liberia-flagged Smarta bulk vessel. The self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic’s Foreign Ministry informed the shipping companies that their vessels were subject to ‘forcible appropriation of movable property with forced conversion into state property’ without compensation to owners. This is the first such incident against commercial shipping.
👉 In addition, in the Odessa region on 07 July, a Russian missile hit a Moldovan tanker carrying diesel that had been drifting in the Black Sea. This is the second time the Moldovan tanker has been hit, after first being hit with a missile on February 25.
👉 In Sri Lanka, on 10 July 2022, protestors stormed and occupied the parliament demanding the President resign. The speaker of the parliament has confirmed that the President will resign on 13 July 2022. Despite the resignations, both violent and non-violent protests continue unabated. At this time the security of transfer- ring crew cannot be guaranteed and as such no movement beyond this port in Sri Lanka should occur.
👉 In Libya, the force majeure continues at Ras Lanuf, As Sidra, Zeuitina and Brega oil port due to continuing protests demanding better living conditions and elections. Militia activity continues in Tripoli as Bashagha promises to make a third attempt to retake the capital from President Dbeibah ‘in the coming days.’ Bashagha claims that he has recieved ‘positive invitations’ to enter the capital from some armed forced that had changed their positions.
👉 In Nigeria, a Niger Delta activist has warned that the passage of the Water Resources Bill could escalate militancy in the Niger Delta. The Water Resources Bill which has been reintroduced by the lower house has been seen by locals as Nigeria trying to confer owner- ship of the waterways and prohibit fishing by coastal communities, a major source of livelihood. The Benue State Governor has stated they will ‘resist any attempt’ to allow the passage of the bill.
