👉 The Black Sea looks set to continue to dominate the maritime security agenda for the forthcoming report- ing period as well as the last. Renegotiations around the Black Sea Grain Deal extension are set to begin in Geneva on the 13 March 23. Despite Russian MFA officials stating that the renegotiation will be a ‘complex’ task, Turkish officials remain optimistic that an extension will be found.
👉 As a result of severe weather, there is a renewed Black Sea warning for drifting sea mines. In line with this warning, Turkish authorities are believed to have destroyed a mine found off the Ordu coast. Within the last reporting period there is understood to have been a temporary halt in operations within the Grain Deal resulting from a suspected loss of GPS signal in the southern part of the corridor. It is understood that vessels were not able to meet the reporting requirements for the Black Sea Grain Initiative, as well as safely navigate the corridor which prompted the halt in operations. Vessels that had already entered the corridor were instructed to return to the anchorages in the northern and southern holding areas.
