Access the latest Maritime Security Threat Advisory for the week commencing 13th November 2023.

👉 A missile launched by Russia struck a civilian ship under the Liberian flag as it entered a port in the Black Sea area near Odesa. This incident, reported by the
Ukrainian military, resulted in the death of a harbor pilot and injuries to four crew members. Among the injured were three Filipino crew members, with one requiring hospitalization. The attack, occurring on Wednesday, is part of increased military activities in the Black Sea following the collapse of a United Nations-mediated agreement in July for the safe passage of civilian ships.

👉 Despite these hostile conditions, Ukraine continues to export significant quantities of grain and other agricultural products through its designated safe maritime routes in the Black Sea. This includes recent departures from Odesa to the Bosphorus Strait in Turkey, despite Russian military attacks targeting port facilities in Odesa. These attacks have resulted in casualties among crew members of merchant ships. Ukrainian officials assert that maritime operations are ongoing, even amid Russia’s continuous assaults on port infrastructure.

👉 In a related development, Ukrainian forces claim to have struck two Russian landing crafts in Crimea using sea drones. This operation is part of a series of
intensifying attacks on the peninsula, which Russia annexed in 2014. The strikes near Chernomorske in Crimea were confirmed by a representative of Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence.
