Access the latest Maritime Security Threat Advisory for the week commencing 15th Jan 2024.
👉 On January 11th and 12th, 2024, authorities from the United States issued a collective statement confirming that naval forces from the US and UK,
along with assistance from Australia, the Netherlands, Bahrain, and Canada, executed coordinated strikes on Houthi positions in Yemen. This action was a response to a substantial series of maritime assaults by the Houthis in the Southern Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.
Despite these attacks, the US-owned GIBRALTAR EAGLE was attacked by Houthi rebels while in transit south of Aden. Further strikes against Houthi positions remain a realistic possibility in the coming days and weeks. In the short term, it is assessed that there is a significantly elevated threat to commercial vessels connected to the US, UK and Israel within the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.
US MARAD has issued an alert that all US-owned and flagged vessels should avoid the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden until further notice.
