Access the latest Triton Scout Maritime Security Threat Assessment for the week commencing Monday 3rd January 2022.
A Chinese fishing vessel was attacked whilst operating in the offshore Equatorial Guinea Mbini area. There were 6 crew members confirmed kidnapped. Whilst Equatorial Guinea has historically seen less piratical events than its Gulf of Guinea neighbours, this is the third offshore attack in December 2021. Whilst pirates are targeting opportunistic vessels, they are assessed to have the capability and intent to target larger commercial vessels underway. The success of its recent incidents off the coast of Equa- torial guinea is establishing an increased incident volume in this region.
