Will a new anti- piracy framework solve the Gulf of Guinea's piracy woes?

The latest self-enforcing regional commitments aimed at improving maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea were announced last week by the Inter Regional Coordination Centre Yaoundé (ICC) and the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Centre (NIMASA).

The Gulf of Guinea Maritime Collaboration Forum (GOG-MCF/SHADE) will focus on counter-piracy and armed robbery by linking regional, international, industry and NGO partners to advance and coordinate maritime security activities. It proposes an integrated framework to bring together stakeholders who hold “real time information at sea” and have “operation capability and means”.
