Following the Saudi backed government officials' withdrawal from the strategic port city of Hodeidah last Monday, the Houthi militia have retaken control of the city and are using the location to press south towards al-Faza. This is amidst the Saudi force’s further withdrawal from the port city of Aden and the strategic island of Socotra which overlooks the Bab el-Mandeb strait. In response, the UN has cautioned that this constitutes a “major shift in front lines” and is urging warring parties to renegotiate over Hodeidah and enter into a cease realign with the Hodeidah Agreement.
