A sharp escalation in the Gulf is now moving from rhetoric into operational enforcement at sea.
Following the collapse of U.S.–Iran talks, the U.S. announced a targeted naval blockade focused on vessels entering or exiting Iranian ports and coastal areas in the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman. CENTCOM has stressed this is selective designed to disrupt Iran’s remaining oil exports while preserving freedom of navigation for ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz to non-Iranian ports across the Gulf. Early indicators suggest immediate market and routing effects, with some vessels already adjusting behaviour.
This edition also tracks a significant escalation on Pakistan’s coast: the Baloch Liberation Army’s first reported maritime attack, in which a Pakistan Coast Guard patrol vessel was engaged at sea near the Pakistan–Iran maritime border, killing three personnel. The incident signals a potential expansion of the group’s tactics from land-based operations into the maritime domain.
