In East Africa this week, the Mozambican navy arrested 20 personnel offshore Mocimboa de Praia on suspicions that they were affiliated with Islamist insurgent group, al-Shabaab.

Their presence was notable due to firm restrictions on fishing and transiting offshore of Mozambique’s Cabo Delgado region. Further north, internal tensions increased in Somalia’s capital as the Somali National Army clashed with police in Mogadishu. Factional tensions in Somalia are increasing as delayed presidential elections draw closer.
