👉 Within West Africa there has been an uncharacteristic departure from the declining trend of incidents. Following a prolonged absence of incidents, the region witnessed a return of kidnapping and a number of low-level robberies. Of notable significance was the attack on two fishing vessels and subsequent attack and kidnap of the MV OYA on the Wouri river.

👉 In the past, several abduction cases have occurred on various vessels in Cameroon's anchorage areas, including an attack on OYA 1 in July 2017 near Bonny Island, Nigeria. To counter these threats, both the Cameroon navy and BIR provide security for fishing vessels operating within Cameroon's waters.

👉 Within the Black Sea, there continues to be little sign or indication that Russia is willing to renew its commitment to the Grain Deal with reports indicating that Ukraine is preparing to use a backup plan for grain exports - the inland ports of the Danube River at Izmail, Reni and Ust-Danube.
